Kapa Haka Visitors

Today at Panmure Bridge School we got some visitor's to perform for us. Our visitor's were a Kapa Haka group that also perform at the Auckland museum. They did kapa haka dances, showed and taught our school about the different types of tools that they used in the past for kapa haka dances and what kind of songs and dances they danced and sang to. Some of the objects they showed us were not only for dances but also for war and they would use them as weapons. After they told our school the facts about all the things they used for kapa haka performances, our school kapa haka group performed to our visitor's as a sign for our respect and to thank them for taking their time out of something else to come and perform for us. Something that Room 2 has learnt from our visitor's is that a kapa haka performance isn't just a dance that Maori people do but they also do it welcome new visitor's and also to show respect.

Panmure Bridge Sports Day

At our school we had our athletics day for the juniors. The sports games were ran by the seniors in LS2. The activities we did were really fun. On the day we also got to where our mufti clothes but it had to be the same colour as our group colour that we were put into which were 'Green, Red, Blue & Yellow. Everyone that bought money were allowed to get a hot dog from our master chief 'Mr Ogilvie'. Room 2 and the other junior classes had some helpers from LS2 to look after some of the children in class. Everybody participated in the sports games and Room 2 all enjoyed it. At the end of our sports day we had our whole school sprints and there were some very fast people. The very last thing we did was watch the winners from yr 6-8 compete against each other but that race was just to see who was actually the fastest in the school. Room 2 had a very fun day and we all enjoyed it.

Learning to play cricket

In Room 2 we had a cricket lesson. We had 2 coaches and they were teaching our class how to play cricket. We got to learn how to hold and hit the bat properly to the ball. We each got a bat and we were learning how to hit the ball off a cone. Room 2 all participated and showed respect to our coaches and most of us were really good at cricket. Room 2 learnt that in cricket there are some things you need to be aware of like standing in front of someone as they are going to hit the ball, running in the middle of a ball that might hit you and other safety rules. Room 2 were very lucky to get the chance to learn how to play cricket and we all made sure we had fun.

It was a fun day and everyone was able to express themselves with their own designs.

First, you fold a piece of paper in half
Next, you fold one side into the middle.

Then, fold the other side into the middle
Then fold the bottom of the paper on each side up and press

Teddy Bear Picnic

Room 2 drew pictures of bears and coloured them in.
We then took pictures with our iPad of us holding our teddy bear drawings and then we cut around our picture using our device.
We had fun learning to draw a teddy bear.

Teddy Bears Picnic

Making sure the bears have enough food.
Today we had a teddy bear picnic.  We all brought our favourite teddy or soft toy to school.  We sat in a circle to eat with our bears then Mrs Millward brought in some little teddy bear biscuits to share with our toys.
When we had lunch we talked about why the toy we brought in was our favourite.

Circle Art

As part of our Term 2 Inquiry - Light and Sound, we looked at how sound could affect the choice of paint we used.  This art is representative of Wassily Kandinsky and how he used the timbre (the colour of the sound) eg bright or dark tones of music to choose which paint he would use for each circle.

Room 2 listened to the opening soundtrack of Nemo while painting.  We would close our eyes and listen to the music then chose a colour we thought matched the notes and painted our circle.

Light and Sound

As part of our Inquiry - Light and Sound.
We drew two columns in our Inquiry book and labeled them Light and Sound, then we had to cut out our pictures and decide if they were either light or a sound object.  Some of the pictures were hard to decide and some were both light and sound so we placed them in the middle.

2D Shape Pictures

Room 2 has been learning about 2D shapes.

We joined our shapes together to make other shapes and objects.  We tried to use not only different shapes to make a picture but we also wanted to use different colours that we have learned about.

Bread Experiment

Room 4 (year 3) did an experiment using bread and they let us use the bread to discuss what would happen to the bread if you didn't clean your hands.  This is one week after the bread had been touched.

Below are the observations Room 2 made after discussing the experiment as a class.

The bread got dirty because someone touched it with germs.  We have to wash our hands.
